Quiet and small. Kids love the small variety of animals. They even have alligators LOL
Grew up near this place and was sledding there forever in the winter. In recent years the park has undergone a great revitalization. The sunken garden is amazing and the zoo is small but wonderful with a delightful reptile house as well as the local animal exhibits that include native birds, etc.
Also, the playground area for kids is amazing. Several different "zones" with different things for kids to do. Play in sand, swing, obstacles, etc.
Can't say much about the golf course since I don't golf. Back in the day it was great sledding turf but I don't think that's allowed.
I have been to Phillips park many times throughout the years. I live about 5 minutes drive away. I love the park because it a a very large area for the children to run and play. I do however think there are several areas that need repair, a few are even block off, and nothing is being done to repair them. They also need to replace the wood chips in the area. Other than this I think having a shades place with plenty of picnic tables is wonderful. I would visit if I were in the area. It's worth taking a look. There is also a visiting center and zoo area.
The FREE zoo comes out right next to the nice big playground! And at the zoo, every animal I started to wonder why it was in captivity, I found a sign on its enclosure explaining why it was there. I'd like to go back sometime and see the beautiful garden that's around on the other side.
There is so much for families to do together. Visiting the zoo, learning the history of the excavation of the site and Mammoth bones found. Children can burn off energy at the large playground and cool off in the splash pad. Picnic tables and pavilions offer great places for picnics and get togethers
